Magnesium Fire Starter

The magnesium fire starter can be considered one level up in easyness for flint fire starting from the old fashioned flint and steel kits. Instead of using a char cloth to catch the sparks, it uses magnesium shavings which burn very hot and bright.
Some advantages of the magnesium fire starter are:

- Magnesium is easy to ignite and burns hot
- One magnesium bar can set hundreds of fires easily outlasting matches
This kind of fire starter will normally contain a solid magnesium bar with a man made flint on one side. But they are also made in magnesium bars with handles. With the steel striker, you scrape magnesium shavings into a small pile next to your tinder. Then you place the flint next to the magnesium shavings and strike the flint downwards. When a spark hits the magnesium, the chemical reaction from the heat and oxygen will create a hot and bright flame to catch your tinder on fire.
